I love saying classy. It sounds so...classy. Ugh. But that's all I got.
Anyhow - I just wrote about a cradle the other day, and this isn't a kids' design blog, but I've found a) a killer deal that is b) gorgeous design that happens to be a bassinet. Sue me. I think it meets the basic requirements. And I promise I haven't already been shopping for new baby stuff, lord knows I'll drag my feet on that for as long as possible. I was just visiting the Wexner Center Store online for general d3 leads (thanks for the tip, Mom) when I came across this.
The Ooba Nest Bassinet caught my eye at DWR in Santa Monica last year. It reminds me of a Netto Collection crib I coveted when I was pregnant with my son.
As this isn't intended to do the full duty of a crib, it's much lighter on its feet, and simply architectural. It's just gorgeous. It makes me want to justify the $600 price tag like a bride pitching her ugly bridesmaid dresses - "but you'll use it again!" - a magazine bin? An indoor planter box? A lie, but you so want it to be true...
So the deal is this - despite that aforementioned $600 retail price, the Wexner Center is selling the maple version (walnut is available, too) for $300. Yep, you read right - 50% off. That's a great deal. So buy it for me. Or for yourself. Either way, move fast - they only have one at this price. I promise that whether I get it or not, I'll refrain from writing about kid design for a while.
Think of how happy you'll be - even when your bebe is squalling away, at least little s/he will be doing it enclosed in style...
Ooba Nest Bassinet in Maple, $300, Wexner Center Store

Damn it, I just ordered my bassinet from Pottery Barn 2 days ago! That said, I"m not sure we could quite pull off this look in our country farm house, though I do love it. By the way, I for one am not complaining about all the baby-related products... keep it coming! Anything to keep our house from becoming free of any kind of design sense and drowning in cheery pink and white plastic...
